# Review of The Keepers Archer by Rae Rivers

Rae Rivers is a South African writer who has published four books in her Keepers series and is currently working on the final book of the series. The Keepers series also has a free prequel on Amazon  (The Keepers: Sienna) which she recommends reading first before you get stuck into the meat of The Keepers: Archer, which I will be reviewing today. The Keepers are three brothers who have the fascinating task of defending the powerful witch Sienna. They have superpowers of their own and are wonderfully sexy to boot.

The Keepers Archer

“Don’t ever look for me again, Archer.”
His mouth curled into a smile. “Game on.”

Central Park. Sienna Beckham is out jogging in the autumn sun, feeling almost ordinary. Trouble is, she'll never be. She's on the run from her life as a powerful witch and the three Keepers blood-bound to protect her.

Evil is hot on Sienna's tail and Archer Bennett is searching for her, desperate to find her before they do. As one of her Keepers, he will fight to his death to defend her.

Sienna must return and defend her hometown, Rapid Falls – but she has to face the past and master her powers. And as forbidden feelings blossom between Sienna and Archer, will their love survive the ultimate war?

The Keepers: three strong and handsome warrior brothers, born to protect.

Excerpt:

Sienna put a hand on Archer’s arm.  “I’m going to find Warrick and get him to talk to me so we can go home.”
Archer responded by sliding both hands behind her lower back and pulling her tighter against him so that her body was flush against his.  She gasped at the sudden close contact and the intensity of his grip on her and tried to pull back to see his expression.
“Just a minute more,” he whispered in her ear, keeping her in place as they swayed to the music.  Her body shivered in response, his breathy words scattering her thoughts in an instant.
“Careful, Archer, any closer and people will start thinking I’m your woman.”
  “You are my woman.”
She’d meant to tease him, to ease the sudden possessive grip he had on her, but when his mouth edged towards hers, the gentle scrape of his lips against her skin and his whispered words ripped a soft shudder through her.
  “No.”
“Not yet.  In time, you will be.”
She smiled against him.  “Confident tonight, are you?”
“I call it like I see it.”  His fingers toyed with the seam of her dress at her lower back, and his lips hovered dangerously close to hers.
  “You know we can’t.”
“I’m not in the mood to please The Circle right now and besides, some of the best things in life are the things that are forbidden.”
“What are we, Adam and Eve?”
His face softened in a breathtaking grin and in a gentle movement, he released her, twirled her around, and drew her back to cradle her in a possessive hold that enthralled rather than annoyed her.
She longed to throw caution to the wind and kiss him, take what he offered, and lose herself in this gorgeous man.  Screw the consequences.
Instead, she opted for the safe route.  “Stop it, Archer.”
  “Scared to admit the truth?”
  “No.”
“Liar,” he breathed against her lips before pulling back.
She blinked, trying to ignore the flash of desire that raced through her body and pretend her senses hadn’t just been overrun by pure male sexiness.
  Wow.
“I should go,” she said, needing some distance between them.  After all, she was here for a reason and it wasn’t to spend the night in Archer’s arms – on the dance floor or otherwise.
The silent motion of his head agreed with her, but she could see that he was worried.
She didn’t blame him.  Beneath her cool façade, even she was worried.
But she had a plan.  One she wouldn’t share with her Keepers just yet.
And she hoped to hell it worked.

My Review:

Super! Awesome! Un-put-downable. If you’re looking for nail-biting suspense, action-packed, non-stop entertainment, and hot and touching romance, look no further.

The plot and the flow of this novel didn’t leave me bored for a second. All the time, I had this sense of impending danger; I was kept in suspense continually. My heart raced throughout. There was just so much inside one book. And I became invested in the characters and want to know each of their stories. The romance between Archer and Sienna was so unique, and at times, you don’t think they could ever get together—there’s just too much at stake. When they did give way to the feelings for each other, the chemistry was combustible.

I didn’t think I would ever go for a witch book. I’ve always found them kind of creepy, but when I picked up the prequel and the Keepers Archer, I couldn’t put them down. I actually began to think of what it would be like to be Sienna or one of her Keepers. She made me feel such a part of the book.

Five dragon lady stars.

ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE “F” WORD?

FRIGGATRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA

I was born on the Friday, October 13th, 19…never mind the year. I love being born on this day, especially in October – although I have to wait until 2017 for my birthday to fall on a Friday again, - it's a lucky day for me. Autumn is my favorite season and I consider October the supreme month of the supernatural. No wonder I like to read and write about the paranormal.

One day I decided to do a little research about Friday, the number thirteen and the superstitions behind it.

There are many names given to those who have a fear of the day, all of them long and unpronounceable, but Friggatriskaidekaphobia is the original Scandinavian word.

The English word Friday is derived from the ancient Norse love goddess and wife of Odin, Frigga. Legend tells us she threw a banquet with twelve Gods in attendance, purposely not inviting Loki the God of Mischief. He crashed the party anyway, making the number of guests thirteen.  Chaos ensued. Food and mistletoe were wielded at each other and in the end, the God Balder the Good, was dead.

The Goddess Frigga

Why does the sixth day of the week get a bad rap? We can go back once again to goddess Frigga for a partial explanation. The Germanic pagan tribes worshipped her on Friday. Early Christians thought her a witch and declared Friday the witch’s Sabbath. Crucifixion day in Rome? Yep, Friday.

The number thirteen’s history is more involved.  For reasons that aren’t exactly clear, twelve was believed to be a complete number.  There are twelve months in a year, twelve gods of Olympus, twelve tribes of Israel and twelve disciples of Jesus.  Thirteen, considered an imperfect number, may have pagan roots.  Many nature-based religions worshipped the moon as well as the sun.  There are thirteen lunar cycles and women with a regular period will have thirteen menstrual cycles a year. To pagans who worshipped both Gods and Goddesses, the moon represented the feminine. Back in the day, the Abrahamic religions weren’t keen on giving women power, spiritual or otherwise.

There are many other legends behind the trepidation of the day and all of them available on Google.

It's such a fun day, I usually incorporate the date into my stories. In SOLSTICE, a major part of the curse on the hero's head happens on Friday, the 13th.

Time is running out for Armend Zogu. The 250-year-old family curse on his head will claim his life on his 30th birthday, the winter solstice.

Sofia Palmalosi might be just the Strega who can save him. A descendant of a long line of powerful Italian witches, her family’s magic was a gift from the Goddess Diana.

Together Sofia and Armend embark on a journey from New York, to Sicily and the ancient ruins of Diana’s temple, and back to New York, all the while fighting a battle of magic and wits with a psychopath who wants them both dead and the curse intact.

If the curse doesn't kill Armend, breaking it just might.
