Happy Release Day! Scales, by Pauline Creeden
Verona is a bottom feeder. She is the one mer in her clan who is considered the ugliest and least intelligent. Growing up with the constant bullying and abuse wasn’t the worst of what her kind had in store for her. At seventeen years old, she must now endure “The Reckoning.”

TO KEEP FROM SCREAMING, I bite hard on my lip. The copper mixture of blood and saltwater mingles on my tongue. Mer claws rake against my back. The barnacles on the post to which I’m tied stab me in the chest. Pain sets my body on fire. Everything burns. I squeeze my eyes shut tight and keep my silence.
“Ugly.”
“Repugnant.”
“Unsightly.”
“Ignorant.”
“Bottom Feeder.”
Each word cuts as deep in my flesh as the physical wounds my clan inflicts. It can’t last long. I can endure this. As soon as the sharks catch scent of my blood they will come, and the Mer will scatter.
The world spins around me like a whirlpool. My breaths come quick and shallow, my heart pounds faster in my ears. Each second is an eternity, until I realize fresh wounds are not adding to the burning in my skin.
The elder’s sharp tongue whispers in my ear. “Now you will be measured.”
My wrists fall free of the post as he cuts the ties.
Exile. My Reckoning has begun.

Review Hawaiian Lei By Meg Amor
Hawaiian Lei by Meg Amor
Blurb:
Beau Toyama, biplane pilot and flight instructor on the Big Island of Hawai’i has only been out for a year. His last relationship with a man was a disaster. When he meets Matt Quintal, who’s visiting his sister, he’s stunned by the instant attraction to him. But Beau’s afraid to ask for what he needs in a relationship; his anger frightens him. The “mixed plate” Hawaiian/Japanese/Tahitian man works on being Zen calm but Matt brings all his emotions to the surface. It uncovers a devastating secret from his childhood and deep shame that needs healing.
Matt Quintal, New Zealand painter has been living the wild gay life in LA. After one more night of soulless mechanical sex where his body is engaged but his emotions aren’t—he knows he needs a change. His sister wants him to come to Hawai’i for a visit; another big rock in the middle of the Pacific doesn’t seem like a solution but he has to do something. When he flies with Beau in his biplane, he feels a strong pull toward both man and plane that he can neither explain nor deny.
Matt’s a New Zealander, they’re encouraged to be tough, rugged and durable. He is, but he's emotionally a wreck, afraid to show his emotions, so he’s surprised when Beau encourages him to be all of himself. Has he finally found the freedom to be the man he wants to be? The heat between the two men is like watching Pele let her hair down, releasing her hot, molten lava. Will the gorgeous Hawaiian with his long silky black hair and soulful brown eyes finally convince the gypsy nature in Matt to put down roots in another island culture?
Review:
First of all I want to say that this story is different. As in you don't always know what the characters are talking about, the plot is not pushed with external events but it's all based on the main characters' inner emotions. And these difference are what are making this story alive and beautiful. We get to see the meeting of two rich cultures and experience a mystical atmosphere that can transport you in their birthplace, the islands- be it Hawaii or New Zeeland.
Matt Quintal is a painter from New Zeeland, a mystic by nature and in search of something he had forgot. He realizes that he had lost his way and the world is breaking his spirit after one too many meaningless one-night stands in L.A. Luckily his sister calls and he runs to Hawaii, the break he needed.
His attraction to pilot Beau Toyama is instant and, we find out later on, most likely foretold by Beau's deceased mother. Now, you would think that this makes the book a paranormal romance. Wrong. Yes it has some mystic, well- paranormal elements, but they're blended in the story, a normal occurrence, nothing out of the ordinary. You get the same feeling like when you're having a deja vu or some weird coincidences happened, only it's much more than that happening around these two characters. The focus is not on that, but on their soul' journey to love and a life together. As I said, beautiful.
The story is not out of the ordinary. They meet, they like and fall in love. Sure they have past hurts to surpass. Beau had a rough childhood and still mourns his mother, Matt ran away from commitment almost all his life and has his own issues with his father. There is some past abuse going on, broken families and broken trust. All those good conflicts that make a good story. What makes this story exceptional is that it's not focused on the past hurts or present conflicts, it focuses on the main characters' road to healing and new beginnings. The author's perspective is unique, the nostalgic island air and the colorful cultures portrayed leave you breathless and checking flights on the internet. I know I did, I wanted to go to that magical island portrayed right away to recapture my lost days in the sun.
Sure some phrases seemed a bit formal or clinic, some I didn't understood at all, lol. That was more than okay, the book didn't let me forget that it was different and took my attention from the written form of the words to their meaning and what they expressed. There is magic in this book, not the kind you see in paranormal books, but everyday magic that we don't notice until it is pointed to us. Nature's magic and soul magic. As natural as breathing and so we forget it exists. Reading about it is an wonderful experience.
And if I didn't gush enough until now, I'll say it clear. I highly recommend this book and urge you to keep an open mind and feel what it tries to say. If you do that, I'm sure you'll have the wonderful experience I had and maybe it will even nudge you to reevaluate what's really important in life and gain a bit of perspective in your own journey through this world.
I don't know how many dragons I should give. Lol. 4.5? 5? I think I'm hesitating more out of personal reasons (I'm still looking for plane tickets and I see not a chance of running away to Hawaii in the near future. That makes me grumpy :) )

BIO:
Meg Amor
Meg Amor, a multi-published contemporary author, has always believed in love and romance. She writes deep, sensual, romance stories about heartfelt connections and deep soul relationships. Meg feels that passionate sex, as well as her characters inner workings—their vulnerabilities, emotions, and thoughts—are what make a love story exciting and real. She loves to write sensual, erotic romance, with committed poly, and gay male/male relationships.
Meg hand-wrote and “published” her first book when she was eleven about her parent’s separation. Constantly told as a child she had a vivid and (over) active imagination, the dawn of the computer era meant she could now take dictation at speed from the interesting characters galloping around her head.
She grew up in New Zealand, and temporarily lives in California with her American fur children: Leo Ray Jr., and Mr. Beaumont, the Ginger Ninjas. Her heart and soul are split between her American home state of Hawai’i in Kona on the Big Island, and the sultry, steamy Southern city of New Orleans. Nearly all her books are set in Hawai’i or New Orleans, along with snatches of New Zealand for good luck.
Meg’s a gypsy at heart and loves to travel all over the world. She has a love of open cockpit biplanes and the gentle waft into the air from a grass strip. Given a choice, she’d eat out most nights. Fine dining, French, Fusion, Afghani, and Burmese food are some of her all-time favorites. But her favorite junk food is New Zealand fish and chips cooked in pure fat. Never one to do things by halves, she believes in the motto “Amor Vincet Omnia”—Love Conquers All.

BOOK SYNOPSIS
Some ghosts won’t take “yes” for an answer.
Jack Harris has loved Legs Anderson since they were kids. Now that he has her in his bed, he has no intention of letting her go. Aunt Ada has other ideas, even from the grave.
Orphaned at a young age, Legs Anderson owes her Aunt Ada everything. The stoic old lady raised her, and Ada’s warnings about men—and the Harris boys in particular—have stuck, even after her death. Of course, that could be because Ada stuck around, too.
Patience is not one of Jack Harris’s virtues, and he’s waited too long to start a life with the woman he’s loved since childhood instead of them just knocking boots. Now Ada is interfering from beyond the grave, haunting the old Victorian house she bequeathed to her niece and reinforcing Legs’s fears of commitment. But Jack won’t give up. No matter what trouble may follow, the house will be renovated, Ada will learn to let go, Legs will put her money where her mouth is…and then Jack’ll put his lips everywhere else.

EXCERPT
The roar of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Rachel’s block and the rev of a throttle in her driveway announced Jack’s arrival. Legs tried to appear nonchalant when he walked through the poolside gate, but the sight of his sun-streaked hair and tanned, muscular good looks nearly knocked her off her seat. She eased her sunglasses down the bridge of her nose to get a better look.
When he stepped into the pool area dressed in black jeans, black biker boots, and a white muscle shirt that framed his pumped-up shoulders and biceps, she caught her breath. Everyone in the group said “hey” and Rachel offered him a cold drink, but his focus had remained on her. He slid his sunglasses on top of his head and nodded in her direction.
Legs remembered his gaze meeting hers before his attention strayed to her gold and black bikini then savored every inch of her skin. An appreciative smirk curled his lips and desire flashed in his beautiful blue eyes. He took a long pull of the soft drink someone handed him and then set the can down on the patio table. He looked her way and said, “Want to go for a ride?” The invitation came out like a dare.

Want to know more? Here's an excerpt!
It’s one in the morning, and the last guests have gone. Other than the cleaning crew, Brian and I are the only ones left in the ballroom. I know we need to leave, but I can’t bear the thought of standing up and trying to walk out of the room, down to the garage and then to the car. I think my feet might literally fall off.
“You’re going to have to carry me out of here,” I tell Brian, and he gives me a wicked grin in return.
“I was planning on it,” he says, and he stands, takes a deep breath, and lifts me right out of my seat. I yelp and throw my arms around his neck as he carries me out of the room and over to the elevator, barely showing any strain at all. He has to put me down once we get to the elevator, though. “I need a free hand,” he says, hitting the “up” button. But the garage is – oh. I should have known.
“You booked a room.” He nods. “And you told my parents we wouldn’t be home tonight.” Another nod. It’s all part of the fantasy, I guess. He’s been imagining that he’s James Bond all night, and after a glitzy evening at the casino, James Bond doesn’t hop into the minivan so he can get home, walk the dog and collapse into bed. No way. He takes his conquest for the evening up to the five-star hotel room, where the champagne is already waiting. On ice, no doubt.
The bell dings, he ushers me into the empty elevator, and as the door closes, I feel my fatigue suddenly, instantly, drain away, and I’m all over him. I may not be a fan of those movies, but I know how they go, and it’s not as though I need much of an excuse to throw myself at my husband. By the time the door opens onto the third floor, I’m panting and extricating my hands from his tuxedo jacket. “You woke up in a hurry,” he says, panting himself, pulling his hand off the zipper of my dress, which is already halfway down my back.
“Well, I know what you were thinking, and I also know that no girl can resist James Bond, right?” By way of an answer, he leads me down the hall, opens the door to our room, picks me up again and deposits me on the bed. In seconds, he’s finished the job of zipping me right out of my dress, and his tuxedo is in an undignified mess somewhere on the floor. After that – there’s no more thought, just feeling, just his hands and his lips and his – his everything.

When the power pulls you in - dominant males and their animal attraction #shifter #PNR
animal magnetism
- the power to attract others through one's physical presence, bearing, energy, etc.
- the indefinite power, presumably innate in some persons, that enables one to induce hypnosis.
We don't talk outright about personal magnetism or animal magnetism in the romance world, but what we are writing does have elements of that. Especially with vampires and shifters.
With vampires, it's not so much animal magnetic power, but personal hypnotic power. They use their power to put their victims in thrall.
thrall
noun
- Also called thraldom, (US) thralldom. the state or condition of being in the power of another person
- a person who is in such a state
- a person totally subject to some need, desire, appetite, etc
verb
4. (transitive) to enslave or dominate
I think a lot of their power comes from an enhanced physical presence sourced from their wolf or their bear or their other internal animal. The wild part of them that refuses to be tamed yet calls to us with all the beauty of a perfect storm.
And in my ongoing shifter story in Sexy to Go, this power emerges in several ways. It's sexually attractive - almost an aphrodisiac - as well as dominating and confident. In the latest installment, one new ability has made itself known, namely, that a VERY dominant male's power can pull a female into labor. In this case, two females, who enter labor. One, upon his arrival (though she hasn't laid eyes on him yet) and the other, once she is in direct line of sight.
Here's an excerpt from the story, called Mate me or Hate me:
Dahlia
placed an arm across her shoulders. “Don’t worry, Snake’s not going to let
anything happen to you – or the baby. Nor is Liam and he has the entire bear
pack to back him up. Believe me, nobody is going to get to this baby but us.”
Swallowing,
she lifted her head. “Okay. Fine. But when we get there, remind me why I’m not
living in another country sipping coffee in a sidewalk cafe instead of hunkered
down in some tiny remote cabin surrounded by bears watching my mind go stir
crazy?”
“Deal.”
Dahlia took her hand and pulled.
Casi
came off the bed and paused, one hand automatically going to her belly. “Wait. I
feel funny.”
“What
is it?”
“I
think… It’s …” One strong cramp hit her and she cried out, then liquid trickled
down her legs. “Oh, damn. I think my water broke.” Gasping, she looked up at
Dahlia, searching for support.
Dahlia
produced a phone she’d had hidden somewhere on her body and dialed. “Liam? It’s
time. We need to get Casi to the hospital right now.” Ample swearing could be
heard on the other end, and Snake’s concerned voice, too. “Okay. We will meet
you here.” She snapped the phone shut and turned to Casi. “Do you have a bag
already packed? What about a robe?”
Casi
pointed to the robe on the end of the bed and her bag, sitting on the chair
next to the dining table. Dahlia wrapped her in the robe, grabbed the bag and
started them toward the door.
When
Casi put her hand on the doorknob, her body flushed hot. A thousand prickles tingled
over her skin, precursors of something bigger, but she didn’t know what. It
felt almost as if … almost … Oh, God.
Was she going to shift? But I can’t do
that. The baby. Demanding her body remain in human form, she stubbornly
opened the door.
Behind
her, Dahlia let out a sharp cry. Casi’s senses picked up her distress, the
cramp that ran through her mate was the same as hers a moment ago. Then, she
scented the additional liquid. Dahlia had just entered labor, too. But how, or
why? Stunned, Casi focused her attention on the figure in front of the door. A
large man silhouetted against the bright sunlight, his face nearly in shadow.
But from what she could see of it, he looked familiar. As if she’d known him
long ago… Suddenly the details snapped into place. She could hardly find breath
to say the words that burned through her throat on the way out.
“Hello,
dad.”
Suffice to say, the super-dominant masculine exudes a force on the female body that cannot be denied. And that's probably WHY females love them so much! :)

# Review of The Keepers Archer by Rae Rivers
Rae Rivers is a South African writer who has published four books in her Keepers series and is currently working on the final book of the series. The Keepers series also has a free prequel on Amazon (The Keepers: Sienna) which she recommends reading first before you get stuck into the meat of The Keepers: Archer, which I will be reviewing today. The Keepers are three brothers who have the fascinating task of defending the powerful witch Sienna. They have superpowers of their own and are wonderfully sexy to boot.
Please find the buy links to all her books here: Rae Rivers' Books
The Keepers Archer
“Don’t
ever look for me again, Archer.”
His
mouth curled into a smile. “Game on.”
Central Park. Sienna Beckham is out
jogging in the autumn sun, feeling almost ordinary. Trouble is, she'll never
be. She's on the run from her life as a powerful witch and the three Keepers
blood-bound to protect her.
Evil is hot on Sienna's tail and
Archer Bennett is searching for her, desperate to find her before they do. As
one of her Keepers, he will fight to his death to defend her.
Sienna must return and defend her
hometown, Rapid Falls – but she has to face the past and master her powers. And
as forbidden feelings blossom between Sienna and Archer, will their love
survive the ultimate war?
The Keepers: three strong and
handsome warrior brothers, born to protect.
Excerpt:
Sienna put a hand on Archer’s arm. “I’m going to find Warrick and get him to
talk to me so we can go home.”
Archer responded by sliding both hands behind
her lower back and pulling her tighter against him so that her body was flush
against his. She gasped at the sudden
close contact and the intensity of his grip on her and tried to pull back to
see his expression.
“Just a minute more,” he whispered in her
ear, keeping her in place as they swayed to the music. Her body shivered in response, his breathy
words scattering her thoughts in an instant.
“Careful, Archer, any closer and people will
start thinking I’m your woman.”
“You are my woman.”
She’d meant to tease him, to ease the sudden
possessive grip he had on her, but when his mouth edged towards hers, the
gentle scrape of his lips against her skin and his whispered words ripped a
soft shudder through her.
“No.”
“Not yet.
In time, you will be.”
She smiled against him. “Confident tonight, are you?”
“I call it like I see it.” His fingers toyed with the seam of her dress
at her lower back, and his lips hovered dangerously close to hers.
“You know we can’t.”
“I’m not in the mood to please The Circle
right now and besides, some of the best things in life are the things that are
forbidden.”
“What are we, Adam and Eve?”
His face softened in a breathtaking grin and
in a gentle movement, he released her, twirled her around, and drew her back to
cradle her in a possessive hold that enthralled rather than annoyed her.
She longed to throw caution to the wind and
kiss him, take what he offered, and lose herself in this gorgeous man. Screw the consequences.
Instead, she opted for the safe route. “Stop it, Archer.”
“Scared to admit the truth?”
“No.”
“Liar,” he breathed against her lips before
pulling back.
She blinked, trying to ignore the flash of
desire that raced through her body and pretend her senses hadn’t just been
overrun by pure male sexiness.
Wow.
“I should go,” she said, needing some
distance between them. After all, she
was here for a reason and it wasn’t to spend the night in Archer’s arms – on
the dance floor or otherwise.
The silent motion of his head agreed with
her, but she could see that he was worried.
She didn’t blame him. Beneath her cool façade, even she was
worried.
But she had a plan. One she wouldn’t share with her Keepers just
yet.
And she hoped to hell it worked.
My Review:
Super! Awesome! Un-put-downable. If
you’re looking for nail-biting suspense, action-packed, non-stop entertainment,
and hot and touching romance, look no further.
The plot and the flow of this novel
didn’t leave me bored for a second. All the time, I had this sense of impending
danger; I was kept in suspense continually. My heart raced throughout. There
was just so much inside one book. And I became invested in the characters and
want to know each of their stories. The romance between Archer and Sienna was
so unique, and at times, you don’t think they could ever get together—there’s
just too much at stake. When they did give way to the feelings for each other,
the chemistry was combustible.
I didn’t think I would ever go for a
witch book. I’ve always found them kind of creepy, but when I picked up the
prequel and the Keepers Archer, I couldn’t put them down. I actually began to
think of what it would be like to be Sienna or one of her Keepers. She made me
feel such a part of the book.
Five dragon lady stars.
