Now the vacation that Christine so desperately needed is ruined, but that’s the least of her worries. She has to use her wits and skills to save them all. Because she soon finds out that werewolves are very real. And they’ll stop at nothing to get their claws into her sister.

Her Real-life Hero

I don't know about you, but I like reading romance. I enjoy reading about heroes who treat their women well and sweep them off their feet.

But real-life doesn't always offer the same. Sometimes, we don't have a hero or our hero becomes a villain. That's happened to me recently. And it hurts. Like soul-sucking, numbing, aching, all over hurt!

Other times, a woman finds a true hero - a man who'll be there, fully there, with all his heart, forever. A man who takes her breath away and fills her heart with love. The problem is, sometimes it takes a whole lot to persuade the woman he's real and she needs him.

That's the same with Joanie, the heroine in my book, Her Real-life Hero. It takes magic to keep Theo in her home even when she boots him out several times, but it takes something more magical inside her and between them to convince her that he really is a hero for real life and not just someone in a book.

Romance Writer in Training…
Joanie wants to get her romances published but can't seem to get things right with her writing. She buys an antique bureau which the shopkeeper says has magic working through it. While using her new bureau, she begins to talk to the hero in her book, asking his advice on writing, all the while thinking it's her own imagination. She promises he can live in her home, eat at her table and sleep in her bed, if he helps her with her writing. She doesn't think he will actually knock on her door and insist she keep her promise.

He’s made a wish…
Theo has also bought a magic chest of drawers that brings him into Joanie's life. He wants to settle down with one woman, tired of shallow relationships, and Joanie seems like the perfect candidate if it weren’t for her insistence on getting rid of him.

Against her will…
The magic keeps on forcing them to live together and Joanie’s not happy. This is her first year alone and she’s been craving time to herself after looking after her younger siblings and an ailing aunt. Theo’s presence in her home, although unwanted, stirs up needs she’s suppressed for years. When they start to discover things about the magic and why it’s bringing them together, will Joanie recognize another type of magic at work? Will she succumb to the charm of Theo or will her need for breathing space pull them apart?

My book is on sale for $0.99 only until Monday. Get here: https://www.amazon.com/Her-Real-Life-Hero-Beyond-Fairytales-ebook/dp/B014FXCBXG

Under Her Skin ~ A New Kind of Shifter Romance ~ only #99c for a limited time

UnderHerSkin.jpg

She's lucky he's a charmer. He's lucky she doesn't bite. Much.

Lindi Parker works hard at being human, not an easy task for a snake shifter. She has no desire to search for others like her—until a new case changes everything. When Lindi learns that she she's not the only shapeshifter in the world, she also realizes she might be next on a killer's list.

In order to save herself and the abused children she works with, she will have to team up with Dr. Kade Nevala, a member of the shifter tribe responsible for eradicating weresnakes—and the most attractive man Lindi's ever met. Even more terrifying, she’ll need to embrace her serpent side, a choice that has enormous consequences for Lindi, and for everyone around her.

Excerpt

He took a step forward, again seeming to loom over me. I leaned farther back, but I was trapped—I would either have to climb up on the bed or push my way past him. I wasn’t sure which would be better.
Then it was too late—he grabbed my upper arms and stared into my eyes. His hands burned hot against my skin. His eyes, too, glittered feverishly, golden highlights churning through the brown.
The intensity of his stare captured me. I drew in another breath, full of the scent of him, and my head swam. Again the color leached out of the room. This time, though, I couldn’t look away from him, couldn’t hide the way my eyes changed, the pupils narrowing and lengthening. The room shifted into shades of gray, and his golden eyes turned silvery as they held my own.
He inhaled sharply as he saw the transformation and his hands tightened convulsively.
“How are you here?” he whispered, shaking his head.
He pulled me closer to him, staring into my eyes. My pulse pounded in my temples. The muscles of my abdomen started to roil; I was about to shift, and I couldn’t control it.
And I might just be okay with that, some quiet, still part of my mind whispered from far away, because this man terrified me. I might have a better chance against him in my serpent form.
But something—some instinct deeper than thought—urged me to maintain my humanity.
I still couldn’t break eye contact; his gaze was hypnotic.
He leaned in and kissed me.

I’ve done things I’m ashamed of. I’ve stolen. I’ve lied. I’ve even taken a life or two. But what I have to do next makes all that look like random acts of kindness.

But putting Max’s life in danger was never, ever part of the plan.

I have one chance to make everything right, once and for all. And I only have one shot at it, because what I’m about to do requires the ultimate sacrifice: my life.

About the author:

melissa lummis

Melissa Lummis considers herself a truth seeker, a paranormal and fantasy writer, an avid reader, a thru-hiker, a Penn Stater, and a free thinker. She believes the universe conspires to help an adventurer. And if we live our lives as if it is a daring adventure (and it is!), then everything we need will find its way to us.

Her books have been described as new age suspense in a fantasy setting, but they are also straight up, steamy Paranormal Romance. The Love and Light Series is currently available at most ebook retailers, as is the Little Flame Series, a spin off focusing on the character Fiamette from the Love and Light world.

She lives in rural Virginia with her husband, two children, an Alaskan Malamute, and a myriad of forest creatures. The nature of her mind dictates that she write to stay sane. Otherwise, her fertile imagination takes off on tangents of its own accord, creating scenarios and worlds that confuse the space-time continuum. Namaste, dear friends.

Interview with Pauline Gruber, author of The Girl and the Gargoyle

Interview with Pauline Gruber

1.    Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been writing? What genre do you write?  I’ve been writing “seriously” for five years, although I’ve been dabbling most of my life. I write paranormal romance, fantasy adventure, contemporary romance, and science fiction for young adults. <LOL> Maybe it would it be easier to list what I don’t write. Dystopian, steampunk, and horror.

2.    What inspired you to write this series? The inspiration for The Girl and the Raven came while I was falling asleep one night and then it proceeded to rob me of sleep for a week. A sixteen-year-old girl from Lexington, Tennessee moves to Chicago and is nearly run over by a wealthy investor barrelling down the street. Turns out a demon is coming for the man’s son and this girl is the only one who can save him. It’s an over simplified version of the story, but there it is. I loved writing that book!

3.    Where/When do you do the most of your writing? I write on the train while commuting to my day job. It’s fabulous because I can either plug in my earbuds and listen to one of my music mixes or keep my ears open and eavesdrop on interesting conversations. It’s great fuel for future characters and stories. I also write at my dining room table at home during evenings and on weekends.

4.    What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment?  Writing and publishing my first two books. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done and the most rewarding.

5.    Do you have a favorite author? Just one? Seriously? I’ll be nice and keep it to seven. Ann Patchett, Stephen King, Anne Rice, Neil Gaiman, JK Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, and Judy Blume

6.    Is there anything that you find particularly challenging in your writing? Writing magical scenes. I have a dozen reference books on magic and witchcraft. And I consult with a woman who’s pretty knowledgeable about this stuff.

7.    Do you have any advice for other authors? The first is to put your butt in the chair and actually write. It’s been said hundreds of times before, but it bears repeating.  Second piece of advice: persevere. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to give up. Whether you suffer from writer’s block, anxiety, lack of time, lack of ideas, a ton of responsibility, the blues, lack of sleep, whatever it is, DON’T GIVE UP! Believe in yourself and your stories. I promise you, the satisfaction you will feel upon completing your book is unlike anything else. And, like one of my middle school readers recently pointed out to me “You’ve got big time bragging rights!”

8.    How can readers reach you?  Via email at pauline@paulinegruber.com; my website: www.paulinegruber.com and on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/paulinegruberauthor

About the Author
Pauline Gruber is a self-professed music junkie, cat wrangler, and travel nut. She went to Paris in the 90’s where she discovered a love of three things: croissants, old cathedrals, and gargoyles. Deciding that the paranormal world could use a new kind of hero, Pauline translated her fascination with the protective gargoyle into a suspenseful love story. She is the author of the young adult series, The Girl and the Raven, The Girl and the Gargoyle and the forthcoming novel, The Girl and the Demon. By day, Pauline is a legal assistant for a Chicago law firm where she steals identities and incorporates them into her books. If you tell anyone, she’ll deny, deny, deny.  Pauline lives outside of Chicago with her precocious black cats.
